Tiểu sử Danh Tăng Việt Nam thế kỷ XX – Tập II này là một phần của công trình sưu tầm biên soạn về “Chư Tiền Bối Hữu Công” trong lịch sử Phật giáo Việt Nam. Công trình này được bắt đầu thực hiện từ năm 1990, đến năm 1995 thì hoàn tất Tập thứ nhất, xuất bản vào năm 1997. Ngay sau đó chúng tôi bắt đầu biên khảo Tập thứ hai trong 5 năm, hoàn thành cảo bản vào tháng 4 năm 2001. Khi mới bắt đầu, toàn bộ công trình dự kiến chia thành 4 phần chuyên biệt, nhưng trong quá trình sưu tầm chúng tôi thấy cần bổ sung thành 5 phần như sau: - Phần thứ
I : Danh Tăng Việt Nam thế kỷ XX
Tập sách thứ hai này nằm trong Phần thứ I (gồm 3 cuốn). Nội dung sách giới thiệu tiểu sử 100 vị danh Tăng tiêu biểu được sắp xếp theo 6 giai đoạn lịch sử của Phật giáo Việt Nam trong thế kỷ này. Cuối sách có thêm phần Phụ lục 04 vị Cư sĩ có đóng góp to lớn cho sự nghiệp chung, và Mục lục về sinh quán – trú quán của các danh nhân Phật giáo. Trong tập II này, chúng tôi cố gắng giới thiệu thêm các Bậc tử đạo – Vị pháp thiêu thân trong giai đoạn tranh đấu của Phật giáo miền Nam trước năm 1975 và các vị danh Tăng có công trong việc truyền bá Phật giáo Việt Nam ở nước ngoài. Biên soạn công trình này là một Ban biên tập gồm 7 vị do Đại đức Thích Đồng Bổn làm chủ biên và một Hội đồng Cố vấn 5 thành viên gồm những bậc tôn túc Giáo phẩm, Cư sĩ, Giáo sư có uy tín và có học vị khoa học. Là một biên
khảo khoa học, công trình này không phân biệt hệ phái, tông
môn, địa phương, cũng như quan điểm, chính kiến. Chúng tôi
chú trọng trước hết tới tất cả các vị có công lao đóng
góp vào sự nghiệp chung của lịch sử Phật giáo Việt Nam
là tiêu điểm quyển sách này.
SUMMARY The book “Biographies of Prominent Vietnamese Monks in the 20th century, volume 2” is a part of a research and editing work on Monks of distinguished services to Vietnamese Buddhism. The work began in 1990 and the first book (Biographies of Prominent Vietnamese Monks in 20th century, volume 1) was completed in 1995 and published in 1997. After that, we immediately sought for documents for this second volume for 5 years. It was completed in April 2001. The whole work
was originally arranged in four particular parts; but while treating the
documents, we realized that it had better be added another part, as follows

This book, the second of the first part (consisting of three books), contains biographies of a hundred Monks who were regarded as outstanding representations of their periods. These biographies are arranged in accordance with six periods of Buddhist history in the 20th century. This book has an annex to introduce four Buddhist merilorious laic followers who dedicated their efforts to Vietnamese Buddhism. And, finally, there’s a table of contents listing places of birth and residence of Buddhist celebrities. This book also introduces some martyrs – the ones who burned themselves for the Dharma – in the Stage of the Buddhist struggle before 1975 and Buddhist missionaries who propagated Vietnamese Buddhism overseas. The author of this book is a seven-member editorial board headed by Venerable Thích Đồng Bổn and a five-member advising committee including respectful Monks, Buddhist scholar and excellent University professors. As a scientific research, this work doesn’t discriminate against or in favor of anyone due to their various sects, schools, as well as points of view or political opinions. We are mainly concerned about everyone who had great contributions to Vietnamese Buddhism. That’s the main goal of this book. THE CHIEF AUTHOR
SOMMAIRE Le volume 2 du livre “Biographies des moines bouddhistes vietnamiens célèbres au XX ième siècle” est une partie d’une oeuvre de recherche globale ayant le titre général “Les Ancêtres emérites dans l’histoire du Bouddhisme vietnamien”. La rédaction de cette oeuvre globale a debuté en 1990, pour avoir le premier volume terminé en 1995 et publié en 1997. Immédiatement après nous commenccions la redaction du deuxième volume durant cinq ans, qui fut pratiquement terminé au mois d’avril 2001. Au commencement, nous envisagions notre oeuvre, come divisée en quatre parties specialisées, cependant, au cours de nos recherches, cette conception quatripartite fut reviseé et supplementée par une cinqième partie : - Première
partie : Moines bouddhistes vietnamiens émérites au XXème siècle.
Le présent livre est le deuxième volume de la première partie, comprenant trois volumes. Il relate les biographies de 100 moines bouddhistes émérites représentatifs, répartis sur 6 étapes historiques du Bouddhisme vietnamien au siècle actuel. À la fin du livre, est ajouté un appredice, relatant la vie de 04 laics bouddhistes remarquables pour leurs éminentes contributions à l’oeuvre commune, et un deuxième apprendice spécifiant les lieux de naissance des personages bouddhistes célèbres. Dans ce deuxième volume, nous avons essayé de présenter en addition la vie des martyrs bouddhistes par le feu au cours de la lutte des bouddhistes vietnamiens avant 1975, et aussi la vie des moines bouddhistes qui se sont illustrés par leurs contributions à l’oeuvre de propagation du bouddhisme vietnamien à l’étranger. |
